Rome Drives Away Photogenic Gladiators

Performers in Rome who dress like the ancient combatants earn money by posing in photos with tourists. As of Friday, they’ve been driven away from the Colosseum. Roman officials say gladiators will no longer be able to peddle pictures outside their classic arena.

Mary Murphy has been in the TV business for 28 years, but she’s finally landed her first international assignment.
On Sunday, the WPIX/Ch.11 correspondent will head to Rome to cover the elevation ceremony for Archbishop Timothy Dolan. “The challenge [news director] Bill Carey is giving me is to make this different from all the other coverage,” Murphy says. “You have to find perspectives on stories others may not find.”
